How to talk to young people about Soluna by Kooth

Kooth’s children and young people’s service is evolving into Soluna by Kooth.

Our trusted support remains the same: free, confidential mental health support, trained practitioners, moderated community spaces, safeguarding standards and clinical governance.

What is changing is the experience of accessing support. Soluna by Kooth will offer a more engaging app and web experience, with clearer navigation, more interactive activities and more choice for young people.

We created this page to help professionals, parents and carers understand more about the change, how it will help young people, and how to signpost them to Soluna by Kooth.

What is Soluna by Kooth?

Building on 25 years of NHS partnership, Soluna by Kooth is a new platform that retains the same clinical model, safeguarding standards, governance and professional support, while introducing a more engaging, accessible experience across app and web.

Why Kooth is evolving

Young people are increasingly turning to unregulated AI tools and social media for mental health support.

Soluna offers something categorically different. It is clinically governed, human-led, and built around the safeguarding standards that commissioners and system partners rightly expect.

The same commitment to safety

The same trusted support, with more to explore

The free, confidential, and safe support young people trust is staying the same – just with more features to help them look after their wellbeing.

When the time comes, we’ll show existing users and new users how to access Soluna. Until then, Kooth is still here.

What is changing

Soluna gives young people more ways to find support that works for them.

Young people can:

  • Find relevant support more easily

  • Build self-understanding and coping strategies

  • Access support in the moment

  • Reflect and share their voice

  • Book one-to-one sessions and choose their own practitioner

Soluna will be available through a mobile app as well as through a web browser, broadening access for all.

What this means for you

For now: Please continue to signpost young people to Kooth as normal.

For later this year: we will begin moving current service users across to Soluna by Kooth, providing clear step-by-step instructions.

We will also share updated links and resources ahead of changes to signposting.

Once Soluna is live, anyone visiting Kooth will be automatically redirected.

What should you tell young people about Soluna by Kooth?

The message to young people is simple: The Kooth service is evolving into Soluna by Kooth later this year. Everything they rely on stays the same. Free, confidential support. Trained practitioners and wellbeing support. A safe, moderated community. None of that is going anywhere. What's changing is the experience of accessing it.

Young people don’t need to do anything right now.

They can keep using Kooth as normal.

When Soluna is ready for them, they’ll see a message when they log in, with clear step-by-step instructions on what to do next.
