The rise of single session therapy

Improving access to support through single session therapy

We believe in scalable mental health support that is available in-the-moment. As part of this continuing drive, we offer drop-in single therapy sessions.

In fact today, 78% of all one-to-one sessions at Kooth are single 'one at a time' sessions. Latest outcome measures show this approach is hugely effective, with around 70% of service users achieving their wants and needs.

Demand for 'one at a time' therapy sessions

Responding to service user needs is central to our approach to mental health.

Kooth's chief clinical offer, Dr Lynne Green, describes how we developed a "single session" service to meet changing needs - and the validated measure we developed to assess single session outcomes.

Evaluating the effectiveness of single sessions

Dr Louisa Salhi, head of research at Kooth, explains how we collaborated with partners like the Child Outcomes Research Consortium (CORC) to develop our 'session wants and needs outcome measure' (SWAN-OM), the first ever measure for digital single session therapy.

Building an evidence base for single session support

We're continuing to research digitally-delivered single session support through SWAN-OM, our validated outcome measure. Read a selection of our research papers for our latest findings.

Making an evidenced case for single sessions

Eminent clinical psychologists, Professor Jessica Schleider and Dr Maria Loades discuss single sessions in terms of their flexibility, scalability and popularity - and their critical role in helping meet the needs of young people today.

Justin's journey to mental health

This is a real-life case study about Justin*, a Kooth service user, showing how easily-accessed single sessions can make a momentous difference in someone’s life.

Through single drop-in therapy sessions, Justin gradually opened up about what he was struggling with and took meaningful steps towards self-acceptance and confidence.
