Kooth brings free 24/7 mental health support to Buckinghamshire adults after Council commissions its ‘Qwell’ service

  • Qwell, an online service, will give local adults free and anonymous access to articles, podcasts and video resources, as well as tools like an online journal and goal tracker

  • Those aged 18+ will also have access to the Qwell community via a moderated peer support forum, where they can post their stories or questions

  • People can log on to https://explore.qwell.io/bucks/ from anywhere; resources are available 24/7

Buckinghamshire Council has commissioned Kooth’s ‘Qwell’ service to provide 24/7 mental health support to adults across the county. From 1st July 2025, adults in the area will have free access to discussion forums, a full library of resources and digital tools to support their mental wellbeing.

Qwell is available alongside existing services to ensure that local adults are well supported: the team is focused on engaging groups that are less likely to access mental health support, such as men, people of Black or Pakistani ethnicity and LGBTQIA+ residents.

The commissioning of Qwell is part of Buckinghamshire Council’s continuing drive to address inequalities in mental health.

Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Isobel Darby said:

“With Qwell, Buckinghamshire Council aims to bridge the gap in improving mental health, ensuring that every adult, regardless of their background or circumstances, can find the information they need. This initiative is a significant step towards fostering a healthier, resilient community and reducing health inequalities. This strengthens our work to promote good mental health and ensure mental health support is accessible to all.”

Kooth’s chief clinical officer, Dr Lynne Green, commented: “We recognise that it can be hard to reach out for mental health support; stigma is still a huge issue for many communities. We hope Qwell will make a difference: it’s free and anonymous and adults in Buckinghamshire can log on from anywhere to access supportive resources and to connect safely with our online communities.”

The team has been working closely with local groups to better understand mental health issues that may be impacting the county, working alongside community groups and individuals to create additional supportive content, including:

  • Q:Alliance, a local Milton Keynes-based charity supporting the LGBTQ+ community - a podcast with the charity on the importance of representation and of connecting with others

  • Aylesbury Football Club’s pan-disability football team - a written piece on the mental health benefits of inclusive sports, with input from volunteers and parents

  • Local mosque in Chesham - a written interview piece with the mosque secretary looks at the links between community and wellbeing

  • A Buckinghamshire parent - a podcast interview with a local Mum to understand her experience bringing up a mixed heritage child in the county

https://explore.qwell.io/bucks/ is now available to all adults aged 18+ in Buckinghamshire.
